Staff Biography

Dr. Richard N. Roberts is the Director of the Early Intervention Research Institute, which is the Research and Evaluation Division of the Center For Persons with Disabilities. He is also a Professor in the Department of Psychology. Dr. Roberts received his undergraduate training at Columbia University and completed his graduate training in Clinical Psychology at the University of Hawaii with an APA-approved internship at Rutgers Medical School Department of Psychiatry. As a licensed Clinical Psychologist, he has provided direct services to families and children. Dr. Roberts directs a vibrant and exciting professional staff at EIRI. Together they are involved in a number of projects investigating different aspects of the effectiveness of early intervention programs for families with young children prenatal to 8. The EIRI website lists the current projects now funded through state and federal grants. Prior to coming to USU, Dr. Roberts directed a research institute in Hawaii in which early educational programs for native Hawaiian children and families were developed, validated, and disseminated throughout the State. Dr. Roberts own interests lie in the area of policy and research to practice issues in early intervention and children with special health care needs. As the lead author of a number of published books on the topic of early intervention, his work extends to the areas of family professional partnerships, eco-cultural models of assessment and intervention, community-based service systems, and service integration and coordination. He serves on a number of state and national boards in the area of disability and early intervention.
