Staff Biography

Eduardo Ortiz, ABD-Sociology, M.B.A., J.D. Eduardo graduated from USU-MBA (2002) program and currently is finishing his Ph.D. in Sociology at Utah State University. He is an ABD working on his dissertation about the influence of family structures on language development of preschool children and his expected graduation is this summer 2009. He has worked on the Bilingual Early Language Literacy Support project (BELLS) for the past several years. At present, he is a Graduate Research Assistant on the project Using Technology for Emergent Literacy and Language UTELL project. Additionally, he has been part of the working team in many other projects at the Early Intervention Research Institute (EIRI) at Utah State University such as Head Start-USU project, SHELLS project, Early Reading First-Utah project, PICCOLO project, Champions-Inc project, and Finding Utah-s Most In Need Children, among others. He also has taught several classes at Utah State University such as Introduction to Sociology (Soc. 1010), Social Problems (Soc. 1020) and Social Research Methods (Soc. 3110). Mr. Ortiz also holds a Law Degree (J.D.) from the Catholic University of Ecuador, his native country. He has been involved in many local community programs and activities, and because of that he was the recipient of the 2008 USU Diversity award (student category). His extended academic and cultural background has been very useful in different analytical and problem-solving situations.
